Complimentary Colors

Complimentary Colors

Jokes aside, could we put this myth to rest? The idea that blue and orange are complementary colors comes from an outdated understanding of the color spectrum, and frankly, I'm surprised "graphic designers" have such bad taste that they can't tell how fake it looks. The colors clash, like red and green or yellow and purple. High-saturation colors often clash. To avoid this, use azure and sepia. Think of a wheat field under blue skies or the ocean meeting a sandy beach, or blue eyes set against skin tones. Tip: skin isn't orange. Stop pushing up the saturation on everything, otherwise we'd be back in the 80s and early 90s with hot-pink-on-black and neon-green-on-magenta.
