I don't find it all that offensive. It isn't exactly making fun of the people in the picture. It's just a pun on words. I don't look at it and think poorly about the persons pictured, or those with down syndrome in general. I would say the internet numbed me to this type of humor, but I worked at a special needs school for some time, and blatantly making fun of those who are handicapped usually doesn't sit well with me. But this is more of a play on words, imho.I don't find it all that offensive. It isn't exactly making fun of the people in the picture. It's just a pun on words. Let me make this clear. I am very fond of this site. I comment a lot on it because I love most the content. I am also a Special Education teacher. This picture made me smile but that was before I saw the text in the corner. I will not lie coming home from teaching very low IQ Autistic students and listening to SoaD on my iPod yes I did bemuse myself with the idea of " Syndrome of a Down" well before I saw this picture and what it actually might have looked like. But honestly if you're going to laugh at this because of how they look and you have never had extended interaction with someone with a mental disability I'm going to need you to shut up. If you are in High School go volunteer your time to one of the Sp. Ed classrooms. Most HS have a program that gives you community service credit. If you are an adult and have any opportunity to participate in an event that is pictured above take it. Laughing at these people without knowing the type of personality or understanding what makes them tick really is as bad as racism, sexism, homophobia, and MUCH MUCH worst than hating the French. You wouldn't believe how grateful you will be for getting to know someone like these people. That being said Serj Tankian is going to be PISSED at whoever made this.Let me make this clear. Hmm, it's making fun of the band, if anything...not the people. In fact, it's just a picture. I think it's kinda funny, sorry...what's not funny is when others try to tell me what I should find funny. I have a close friend who's son has DS...so what? Do I find that funny? No...but this picture is kinda funny. People get so pissy over every little thing...as if what *they* find funny is ok but everything else is *offensive* and shouldn't be on this site. I wonder how many folks on here have alcohol addiction problems are know somebody who does...wonder if they find all the pics related to drunken idiots "offensive." I bet there's at least a few folks here who are from or live in an impoverished nation...wonder if they find all the pics mocking them and people like them "offensive." Omg you are right! this is so utterly offensive! Why would anyone let those mentally impaired children on stage to be filled with self achievement and pride at entertaining their peers! They should be ashamed! Instead we should keep them safe in those special ed classes until they are way over the normal school age rather then intergrading them into society. Then when they have no social skills and their doting parents finally pass away and they have little understanding of the situation we can make them burdens of the state and put them in a home with 100 other people like them till they pass away themselves... /END SARCASM If you really cared, you'd see this as probably the most important and self fulfilling time in these kids life, and if that makes you laugh then don't feel ashamed and that you should reprimand everyone else. These kids can understand the fact that they got on stage to be the center of attention and to entertain. And thats what they did. Not even every normal person can claim that. My point is if you think this is unpleasant then maybe you just cant accept people with mental/physical imparities and maybe you need your own self reflection on this matter.
