From childhood it's hammered into us that the correct reponse to a compliment is to deny it, then (if it's another girl) compliment the person who said something. "I love that bracelet!" "What, this old thing? It's crappy. But I love your boots." Agreeing with a compliment is tantamount to complimenting oneself, or laughing at your own jokes- it's viewed as self-absorbed. Yes, I'm sure to you clearly sophisticated gentlemen this is confusing, but it's simple, and part of the ongoing emotional warfare that occurs throughout high school, and that afterwards we're unable to shake off.Brandon Widrig *sigh* Right.
