How Democracy Works

how Democracy works
  1. Alexander Donat Rheault says:
^fail, "Obviously this is a fundamentalist's view. Even an idiot with IQ of 10 knows lava is certain death!" I think he gets it. The next part was either a joke, or trying to further discredit the cartoon.

  2. Kristen Lewis says:
Alexander Donat Rheault The cartoon was exaggerating the ignorance of the 'average American'. The joke of the comic isn't actually about jumping in said lava, but rather about how a democratic society is brought down by those who choose not to educate themselves. I don't think you understood it either honestly.

  5. Jonathan Hall says:
Another victory for the status quo, which is weaving a mist to obscure the truth, as you said Kristen. The fact is that the three idiots voting to jump into the lava are the 'educated' ones. Their tricks are ever more intricate.

  6. Kristen Lewis says:
Troy Wilson As much as America claims to be a democracy power isn't in the hands of the people. Therefore the comic is glaringly inaccurate anyway. The point is moot. :/

  7. Troy Wilson says:
Brian, lava is liquid rock due to thermal temperature, therefore, "hot lava" is redunant. Kristen, I recant my comment about "lava lake" as I found there are actual lava lakes. I didn't miss the point, just don't agree with the cartoon's message, nor find it funny, I guess.

  8. Troy Wilson says:
Obviously this is a fundamentalist's view. Even an idiot with IQ of 10 knows lava is certain death! Also, is there a cold lava I am unaware of? The size of that volcano is not of considerable size to be called a "lake", nor is it filled with fresh or salt water either!

  9. Brian Rogers says:
"Also, is there a cold lava I am unaware of?" Igneous rock.

You're questioning the SIZE of a cartoon lava pit. You've missed the entire point of this comic. There is no saving you.

  11. Brian Rogers says:
"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'". -Isaac Asimov

  14. Brian Rogers says:
Kristen Lewis I believe our government is known as a "representative democracy", wherein the individual people don't really have any voice in day-to-day government affairs, but instead we elect people to represent us in congress. The problem being that there's nothing to guarantee that the representatives will have your interests at heart, whether you voted for them or not. Amirite?

  25. Shane Rogers says:
A perfect democracy, a ‘warm body’ democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, has no internal feedback for self-correction. It depends solely on the wisdom and self-restraint of citizens… which is opposed by the folly and lack of self-restraint of other citizens. What is supposed to happen in a democracy is that each sovereign citizen will always vote in the public interest for the safety and welfare of all. But what does happen is that he votes his own self-interest as he sees it… which for the majority translates as ‘Bread and Circuses.’ -Robert Heinlein
