Still sucks since they still have to sit at their desks for 9 hours a day. Which is on par with sitting and watching tv for 9 hours which according to this increases the risk of heart problems by 100%. That sucks
Yea. I need to get off my bum and exercise, not that I'm worried I will get fat, but with diabetes and heart disease and cancer and all that what not, I need to exercise more. My problem is, there are far more interesting things to do inside (internet, tv ect), and nothing in the area that I live in to do. Ugh. No motivation.
Looks pretty bad when all the numbers are laid out for you like that. Good thing I ride a bike to work before sitting down for the next 8 hours, I guess.
All valid points...except that these all still seem to revolve around being inactive/overweight...not so much the sitting itself other than the fact that it lends itself to being overweight. To me, this is more a symptom of fat people who are out of shape...they have all these health problems, and they tend to sit a lot. I think "Sitting is killing you" is a bit misleading.
Now if you came with some data on the compression of blood passageways in your hips/legs area that causes problems when you sit too long, it'd make more sense. This just sounds like the usual "stay active and stop eating" information we already have. Keeps saying "stand don't sit" over and over again...but according to the data on this same post that only increases energy expenditure by 10%...definitely not enough, by itself, to solve our obesity crisis. Should just say "Being inactive is killing us"...which of course, goes without saying.
Hmmm, ok...thinking about this too much...that's what happens when I come to DudeLOL and the shit ISN'T FUNNY! LOL...
I remember reading about this office, IDK what it was, data entry or something, and they replaced people's chairs with exercise bikes and treadmills. They actually got more work out of people that way.
Also, blah blah blah, don't post not-funny stuff on DudeLOL, etc etc ad nauseam.
There definitely is some issues with sitting too long, though all the people I know who have problems are also overweight. My mother used to have a hell of a time flying because she couldn't sit very long...something about the circulation in her legs...very bad.
true if you look 100.000 years back but the human body evolves every time a baby is born and as we sit down so much your body will become more resisten against that risk so you cant really say that that is a 100% correct.
only thing I got from that: sitting burns a calorie a minute, walking burns three to five times the calories of sitting, so apparently walking only burns 3-5 calories a minute, you're doing it wrong.
NAH I stand and work. or i can lift my feet off the ground for minutes on time for my lower abs. then i practice my core and straightening my back. simply lifting you arms off the desk while your typing helps. ;) lets get creative! we should do lunch runs!
It's true though, look at us compared to Europe - I was just in Copenhagen and everyone looked like a model. Why? They don't own cars, they're on their feet or a bike most of the time. They could literally run circles around us all day with the amount of walking they do.
