The Nice Guys of OKCupid

A tip to all the fellas out there: never call yourself a "nice guy" on the Internet. First off, you kind of sound like an overcompensating d-bag. Secondly, if you do, you may end up on the new Tumblr blog, Nice Guys of OkCupid, which links to self-proclaimed "nice guys" who are stuck in the "friend zone" for reasons that are apparently clear to everyone but them. Like the gentlemen above: he's a "decent guy" -- it's not his fault that he's stuck in the dreaded #friendzone. Women everywhere are to blame, for being "superficial and disgusting." GET IN LINE LADIES. Let's meet some more of OkCupid's "nice guys," who always finish last.

I don't see what the bold and chubby guy did wrong. there's no problem in being uncomfortable with a woman you date having had too many sexual partners, its a personal thing, some people can cope with that some cant. i don't see why most men would wear make up unless they are , gay, clowns, goths or tv personalities. and what's wrong with racist jokes? as long as there's no harmful intend or you're not trying to inflict and ARE not inflicting hurt, what's the problem. this shit is freaking pretentious, its disgusting realy.

If you can't imagine a scenario in which someone is obliged to have sex with you, you probably have a weak imagination. If you've paid for a service that a woman explicitly agreed to provide, she is obligated to provide whatever service that may be.

I agree that racist jokes are fine. You can't stop racism, but you can stop making a big deal about it and you'll achieve the same result. The other stuff though is just that guy being a judgemental asshole. Guys can wear make up if they want, I know the number of straight guys even wearing it is growing. And a woman having that many sexual partners...well you shouldn't write them off. Maybe they promiscious in their youth, maybe they were abused even. You don't know them, so leave them alone until you know the full story.

Hence, the correct answer to, "is there ever a circumstance in which someone is obligated to have sex with you" is "yes," and these men are better people for answering as they did.

  14. Ben Miller says:
Diane, there is nothing wrong with a few lighthearted racist jokes. If we don't celebrate the differences between races, especially through humor, we'll never fix racist thinking. I mean, seriously, can you imagine the world where nobody ever talks about races, ever points out the differences, even when they're glaring? I think it's obvious that such a world would breed unimaginable amounts of unspoken racism. Really, the only problem is when they're flat-out mean or when they're not funny (like Carlos Mencia).

James Earl Adams III I thought the same about the "Do you think you have the right to forbid your significant other anything?" When people are in a monogamous marriage, do they not generally forbid their significant other from sexual relations with others? Maybe I missed something there...

I agree absolutely that a person has every right to engage in whatever consensual relations they please irrespective of their marital status and that this may not be forbade of them. However, you certainly DO have the right to forbid them from certain things -- such as your personal property and autonomy.

The friend-zone concept is such BS. If these guys like a girl they need to go for it instead of beating around the bush and acting like just a friend. People perceive what we project and women are especially good at picking up on the tiny nuances of people's personalities. Think about what it is about you that makes you special and awesome and desirable; focus on that. Don't become a conceited jerk but don't be afraid to be who you are. Confidence is the only thing these guys are missing. A little bit of that goes a long way with women.

1: Whoever put this picture together was a feminist. She's obviously implying that anyone who doesn't like angry androgynist man-haters. Feminists out there... if you shout about equality on the basis of how superior you believe yourself to be. You're an idiot. People who understand this can still be nice people. In general, nice people don't like mean people... misogynists or androgynists. 2: Yes, nice people can disapprove of women with horrible attitudes. If a woman rejected a man because she didn't like his having too many sexual partners... that would be a level-headed decision. Don't insult someone's personality because they call you out for sleeping around. Douche-bags like girls that sleep around. Nice guys don't always appreciate it. 3: A guy acknowledging that women can be "bitches" sometimes... again.. is true. So can guys. People in general have the capacity to be bad people. A "nice guy" isn't defined by blind, unquestioning adoration. 4: That being said... as MOST people are idiots, the ones pictured above are likely no exception. None are likely to actually be nice guys... but judge them on the content of their character. Not "OMG, HE HAS THE CAPACITY TO CALL US ON OUR BS.... kill it with fiah!"

I think a lot of folks confuse nice guys with Celibate Heroes. I don't know many men (good or bad) that could honestly say that they could never be in a situation where someone could be obligated to have sex with them. That being said, a celibate hero could easily say no because he would never allow such a circumstance to exist (He'd probably see such a situation and opt to do whatever is being asked of him for next to nothing.). Of course, celibate heroes are mostly fictional. Come on folks, we don't live in the fantasy world. There's bound to be a few flaws in everyone.

Uh, these are supposed to be NICE guys, remember? Doesn't matter if it's considered normal to make fun of other races, it's certainly not considered nice, so it's just one more easy way to show these guys up as clueless hypocrites.

No, a prostitute is still not obligated to have sex with you. If she, for any reason, changes her mind, she is obligated to refund your payment. That's it, period. Sex workers still have an incontrovertible right to dictate the terms of their sexual encounters.

Whoa, you have a very disturbing image of what's normal in sexual relationships. No one is ever obligated to have sex with anyone. If a girl doesn't want to fuck you and you force her or manipulate her into submitting, there's a word for that: rape.
