The red ring of death is often caused by the adhesive of the cooling pad getting loose. Since this cooling pad needs to be in direct contact with the things it is cooling, this is very bad. To fix it, one simply needs to bolt the cooling pad down.
Because Microsoft could have, and SHOULD have, done this themselves, and they didn't because it would save them a cent and would likely not be an issue until after the warranty is up, I contend that they are purposely built to fail.
Thankfully, that didn't fly legally, and they now have to have many provisions in place to extend your warranty and replace your 360 should you get a red ring of death (as well as try to buy you off with some free XBL time).
Oh, and that thing it does where it puts a big ring on your disc if you bump it at all while its turned on could have been prevented with the addition of scratch prevention hardware, which isn't exactly new technology, since CD players have been in motor vehicles for quite some time now, but once again, they chose not to.
To be fair, I own a 360 that got the red ring of death and was repaired, it hasn't had a problem since. Thank goodness Micorsoft isn't as lazy about fixing stuff as they are about building it :P
The Xbox 360's design was rushed to get it out a year earlier than the ps3....this led to the problem that was the RRoD...I laugh when people tell me how much better MS is than Sony...I suppose if you like games with Space Marines where were trying to defend all of humanity yeah it is...
Once they got past the first batch of sh*t consoles, the red ring rate dropped pretty quickly. I'm on my second 360, and also on my second N64 for the sake of this picture lol, but i've had no issues with this one. Once they fix it they do it right. Besides notice how the PS or WII isn't in this pic? Ya win
~shrug~ I own those things too, although not a PS3. I'm just a console addict, is all. Sometimes I think about doing more PC gaming, but I grew up with consoles and I tend to stick with what I know. Can't keyboard for shit either :D
Devon Dangerpants Bennie Haha, I feel you there. I mainly do console as well, recently got into using steam on my pc but I've put waaay more cashola into my xbox and xbox 360. O the original xbox is a brick. You can do anything to that thing.
Ben Miller its not just the heat sync and even that can be fixed cheap 1st the heat sync is a lack of thermal transfer grease 10 bucks for a small dropp that can be avoided with some break anit sieze from auto zone 1 buck for a whole tube the 2nd major problem is 4 little foam pads under the main board that are supposed to soak up heat i got the red rind and i i did was some break anti sieze between the cpu and heat sync and 8 pennys stacked two high and wrapped in a minimum of electrical tape placed where the 4 pads were i play constantly and its been 4 month's at about 4-6 hours a day with no problems they were built to break
Not quite sure what you mean... I know MS has a TON of 3rd party devs making exclusives games...Hell Bungie and Epic made their 2 biggest games...now Richard Molyneux from Lionhead is gone... the only big ones left are 343 and Rare.
PS3 also has a lot of exclusives made by 3rd party studios like Insomniac making Ratchet and Resistance and games like MGS4 and White Knight CHronicles but they have way more poplular 1st party developers like Naught Dog, Media Molecule, Sony Santa Monica,Sucker Punch,Team ICO.
Jeffrey Scalzo Its 7:15am here, and I haven't slept all night, so I don't even know what I meant in my previous comment xD However, I do know that a game's mechanics are what make a good game, along with the storyline. Graphics are just bonus! A good game can be made on any platform and still be enjoyable, and it seems too many games on all three major platforms are just papware right now, or re-boxed games with a new title (like COD)
And I know I will probably disagree with what I have just said in half an hour, so please ignore my ramblings xD
Lol sure thing my friend...good games are few and far between these days and I cannot even begin to say how sick I am of CoD,Madden and to a lesser degree what Assassin's Creed was becoming with Revelations and Brotherhood(But AC3 looks great!) I think Starhawk looks like the next game Ill be buying...hope all goes well for you..I can see your involved in the military..hope you get some time to enjoy the good games when theyre out
The reason it breaks is because of Planned obsolescence, if Mircosoft made the best possible longest lasting system then it would lose all of the future income of replacing the Xbox. Companies actually account for this future income on there statements.
good luck with that pc that has to be upgraded to play the latest games while the console gen manages to run every new game that comes out ...not spending loads of money ftw!
