Considering you are essentially the same age as me I don't think 'those who've grown up and don't have time to troll youtube" would apply to you any more than me. And most people who would look on the internet or music most certainly wouldn't go the way of a site created for keyboard cats and stunt fails. There's a site named a pandora. I don't use it myself by I've heard awesome things from people older than the both of us.
There always has and always will be crap in the music world. You simply have to find the songs you like. Considering the advantages of technology now I'm willing to assume it's far easier today than it was back then too.
Seriously? Friday is now the epitome of music from this era? decade? year? Fuck even the week it came out?
Find some better songs to represent the present. :/
Seriously...when compare to the lyrical and musical quality of music then and now....there is a HUGE gap in quality. Why do I always see you two together on a page anyways.
David Brazeal
Who?
Also, doesn't that depend on personal taste? Not that I'm a big fan of today's pop music. I'm just not sure why people with at least some talent like Sarah Mclachlan or some other reasonably talented singer have to get lumped in with Rebecca Black, Justin Beiber, or some other ridiculous 'flavor of the moment' singer.
Kristen Lewis You and the Zak guy who seems to be cornering the market on Rebecca Black CDs. I also believe that Sarah Mclaughlin was around a little longer than the last few years. DJ Tiesto was remixing her songs when I was still 16. The biggest crime is that people arent exposed to the older music as much as they should be because pop and bubblegum microwave made shit singles clog the airwaves so much that people who grow up with this filth think its actual music. Remember when Maroon 5 won the music awards and people went..."Who the fuck is that?" THATS the problem. Music on the "mainstream" went to trash. We need another Kurt Cobaine to wake us up before fucking disco makes a comeback!
David Brazeal
Sure Mr. Hipster we definitely another tragic suicidal musician to wake people up. Just because you don't enjoy current music doesn't mean everyone has to listen to vinyl and get nostalgia boners at the mention of Dio.
Maroon 5 IS awesome, or at least I liked them before moves like Jagger. Not a fan of that song honestly. It's not my problem that the people you surround yourself with obviously don't know how to find the good music in the midst of so much shit.
There were quite a few shitty artists back in the day too. The thing is we don't hear about them because their music doesn't withstand the test of time like the good music did.
Look, I think the problem here is that the awesome music was more mainstream "back in the day". let me explain.
I'm only 20 and I know that there are some really good artists out there now but think about it Kristen: how many times do you see SARAH M's videos on the popular music channels? How many of your facebook friends quote her lyrics? How many times do her songs get played on the radio? Now think about REBECCA BLACK. Everyone knows who she is. So yea, FRIDAY is the "epitome of music for this era" because your peers made it so. The good artists tend to get pushed to the side by the majority; unappreciated. So yeah, to those who've grown up have careers, a life, and don't have the time to troll YouTube for good music hear all the crap that our generation supports and assume. And assume correctly because those REBECCA BLACKS are only famous when they are supported.
No...older is better because the messages are real...not redone with talentless kids. Go back and listen to my generations music before you judge...I gave your generations a chance and its a lot like the troll put it actually.
Kristen Lewis Indeed. Every decade had its share of mindless teen pop. Anyone who tries to make an "argument" like this picture is just whitewashing the past. David Cassidy, New Kids on the Block, Tiffany, Kriss Kross...I think my point is clear.
Alright, as far as generational gaps, music, and lyrical meaning goes... Let's compare POPULAR shit of today to POPULAR shit of the past. There are 3 decades worth of music in this picture, so maybe we need to throw in popular crap from each of those decades to bash on. The 70's had Abba (shudder), and did you honestly learn anything from Blondie/Bow Wow Wow/Cameo in the 80's? Hanson and all those shitty boy bands from the 90's? What about this most recent generation's music that ISN'T pop? How about the 2000's? Were Tool's last 3 albums not 'intelligent' enough for you to gather any lesson or meaning? What about Interpol? Radiohead? What about 2010-present? SURELY there was at least ONE album from those 3 years that could teach you something about life. If you can't name any, you have been listening to shitty music since the late 90's.
please tell me the good in these lyrics.... Rack city bitch rack rack city bitch rack rack city bitch 10 10 10 20's on your titties bitch....
or the good in anything that has to do with Reality tv such as the kardashians or those jersey shore queermos
Fucking reflects my life, RIP Kurt. RIP Hendrix..
Die and burn in Hell Rebecca Black take Beiber with you and show these true legends some appreciation.
Dan Listen listen to country if you want better and on that note since the reason older is better because it has a message then i up vote country music :)
Gotye, Mumford&Sons, Young the Giant, The Black Keys etc. - all bands that sound similar to the older artists, but with a unique modern twist. Good music made in this generation. You people just don't find it because honestly, you like your filth.

ya dude, the classics bro, I love em too.
but guess what.
they're old, and well, quite simply, they're played out, so unless you want to listen to the same songs for the rest of your life...
go download some Nero and jam out.
Okay, Rebecca Black isn't the only music of today's generation. "It's Friday" and "You a stupid hoe" isn't te only thing out there. Take Killswitch Engage: "Tear down this feel, that bars your heart from feeling this. Dedicate yourself. Give your soul to compassion. With open arms, embrace this heart. With open eyes, behold the truth. Embrace this life. So little time is left. We must be relentless in our pursuit of those in torment"
Don't even TRY to tell me the music of "this generation" doesn't send out a message. Don't. Even. Try.
