2015 Ford F-150 Gas Mileage Released

2015 Ford F-150 Gas Mileage Released

After months of increased anticipation, Ford has finally released the official gas-mileage numbers for its new 2015 Ford F-150. With the announcement of a truck made with much more aluminum than previous editions, many truck enthusiasts wondered what the company’s end game would be. As the release date of the truck inched closer, it became clear that the aluminum body came as a result of attempting better gas mileage numbers. Ford Motor Company has its eye on being the most fuel-efficient truck on the market, and they’re willing to do just about anything to reach their goal without sacrificing previous quality. So what exactly are these elusive numbers, you may ask. Let’s take a look.
When equipped with the right combination of bells and whistles, the new F-150 earns EPA ratings of 22 combined miles per gallon. Ford reached that number after averaging the city mpg at 19 and 26-highway mpg. These were calculated with a rear-wheel-drive F-150 outfitted with a 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6. Not only does the vehicle put up good gas mileage numbers, but it is also sitting at 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque and weighs 700 pounds less than it did a year ago. All of this combines to create a max towing rate of 8,500 pounds and a max payload of 2,250 pounds. Not too shabby for a truck made mostly out of aluminum!

With these numbers, Ford is sitting at the top of the charts, as far as regular gas mileage goes. However, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel still tops the new F-150 in overall gas mileage, with 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. Ford doesn’t seemed to be too worried about this competition though, with diesel costing nearly a dollar more than regular gas when filling up the tank. In addition to the difference in gas prices, it costs customers nearly $5,000 to equip their Ram with the right engine to achieve those mpg numbers. In comparison, only an extra $500 is needed for Ford customers who want the desired V-6. In essence, the 2015 Ford F-150 will save you the most money in the long run. Of course, that’s only if Ford’s new truck puts up the projected numbers once out doing real world work.
This innovative new addition to the F-150 line-up should be seen on Ford dealership lots this month, if they aren’t there already. The company is hoping to not only attract those who are die-hard Ford fans or those wanting a more powerful truck, but also lure in vehicle customers who are concerned about how much they are spending on gas when it comes to their truck. With quickly plummeting gas prices around the country, however, it could be interesting to see whether this improvement will have customers running to the lot or yawning at an improvement to a problem that is losing its relevancy.
