A Retiree’s Guide To RVs

A Retiree’s Guide To RVs

In a lot of ways, the RV industry is unique. Assets at a crossroads of real estate, lifestyle planning and recreation, RVs are understandably large investments with complex, interconnecting values that vary from person to person — therefore presenting challenges to designers, consumers and dealerships alike.

And when it comes to investments, the retired among us undoubtedly have some experience with the topic; they’ve spent their whole lives investing in different things! From homes to education and from their children to their careers, most retired people have been around the block and know what to look at when it comes to making a good investment. That said, the case could be made that a guide for retiree’s to help them pick out an RV is unnecessary — but here at Quality RV, we believe that everyone can benefit from the insights of others.

Plan

We all know the old adage: Proper prior planning prevents poor RV performance.

…All right, maybe that phrase was altered a bit. However, it’s still true that just like everyone else, retired folks benefit from planning accordingly when they’re in the market for an RV. In order to plan for your RV, you ask yourself questions like: How many people will typically be traveling in the RV? How long will I be typically staying in the RV? Are there any other activities or services that I’d like my RV to come equipped with.

Research

Research is essential to any worthwhile purchase — and this is especially true for such a high-valued investment as an RV. That said, retired folks should go in to specific research in order to find RVs that can fit their needs. Luckily, there is a sizable segment of the population that’s retired and travels the county via RV, and marketers/designers have recognized this and built some RVs accordingly. When searching for your ideal vehicle, try to find ones that are specially made for retirees and include helpful amenities such as assistance bars in the bathrooms, built-in emergency 911 call systems, and other useful features for retired folks to live out their days in their RVs.

Inquire

When you’re narrowing down your research and prospective RVs, you should always inquire as to the functionality of the RV when it comes to retired folks. In most cases, dealers will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have about your prospective RV, and sometimes this may save you from buying one that isn’t as functional as others. Additionally, sometimes dealers may throw in additional modifications for you if they know you’re retired and will be spending a lot of time in your RV.

Purchase

Last but not least, the purchase of your RV is the final step in anyone’s RV-buying process. When you’re taking a last look at the RV you plan to purchase, it’s a good idea to check over the vehicle thoroughly for cracks, weather damage or other issues that you may not have noticed previously or may not have been disclosed. After you’ve given your RV a solid last look-over, you’ll be ready to purchase the vehicle —driving it off the lot and preparing to enjoy your retirement peacefully, efficiently and most importantly, entertainingly!
