Saving Money During The Winter When Heat Is So Expensive

Burr, you think, as your fingers freeze up even trying to type an email to your mother to tell her you love her and that you’re okay even though you’re not because you are so cold and your lips are blue and you may think that is the end, as even your vodka freezes solid because the house is so cold because heat is so expensive.  Does this ring true? Sure, because heating houses in the winter is more expensive than ever these days.  Sure, you can save money by keeping the thermostat low, but an even better solution is find cheaper ways of staying warm.  You can either suffer or you can be resourceful, and we’re always of the mind that it’s better to be resourceful.  Here’s what you can do to save some money and stay warm.

Dress to Impress

You’re not going to be impressing the ladies mind you, but you can be dressing to impress that thrifty grand father you’ve always wanted to impress.  If you wear a couple pairs of socks on each foot, and wear long johns, and a few sweatshirts and of course definitely a hat, you’ll be amazed at how warm you can actually be in a very cold place.  You can also get a 0 degree sleeping back and sleep in that.  You may think that that is no way to live, but in actuality, it’s pretty comfortable and cozy, and it’ll make the warmer months even that much better as you’ll have the freedom to move about when you don’t have to be confined to your mummy sleeping bag.

Burn Your Way to Warmth

Maybe you have a fire place in the corner that you’ve never used because you’re too afraid of setting the house on fire. Or the fire wood is too expensive and you also have no place to store a cord of wood. Well, one thing you can do with that fire place is burn lots of wood that you can get for cheap or free in and around you neighborhood. You can get a truck rental from a place like avon truck and with that truck, you fill it up with wood from all over the place in and around your house, and you bring it back, dump it in the back yard, and now you have absolutely free fuel for your fire. There’s nothing as cozy as a fire when it’s cold out, so go ahead and enjoy the free burning.

Cut the Unused Parts Off

If you have a house that has rooms you don’t use much, like a pantry, or the basement, stuff like that, you have to seal them off for the winter.  There’s no point heating a place you don’t go to.  Most heating systems have ways of shutting off the radiators on a radiator-by-radiator basis, so go ahead an give up a few under used rooms for the season.  You’ll enjoy the savings.
